Slight Change Of Plan

09-08-2012

Sooo...

In my last post I said that I had gotten back The Ogra Pig and was going to publish it on Kindle Desktop Publishing at the weekend.

That plan didn't really pan out in the end.

Not for lack of trying or time or even being a lazy bastard. But because something was brought to my attention that seemed too good an opportunity to pass up.

One of my favourite authors, in conjunction with his publisher, is running a contest that will result in the winner getting a book published. Sure there are contests like this all the time but this one is being ran by and is named after somebody that made me want to get into writing. How could I not enter that? Plus the rules on the sort of book you are allowed to enter pretty much summarise The Ogra Pig completely.

The hilarious thing is that I had converted the document into Kindle Format and even created the cover using my friends awesome painting (based on a scene from the book nonetheless). So we were all ready to go and then the cover artist sends along the link to the contest.

The reason I stopped publishing to Kindle? In order to enter the contest you cannot have a valid ISBN number attached to your novel. If you self publish to Kindle you get, technically, a valid ISBN.

Meaning that the self publish angle has to wait until March 2013, when the contest winner is announced.

Sure what is a few more months right?

But that doesn't mean I won't be doing writing in the meantime. As of now I have seven of the twenty-one chapters for The Fairy Detective rewritten. So it's all steam ahead for another novel.

I'll get something to the masses eventually, honest :)
